【4】 Grandpa Wada's Handmade Ecchu Fundoshi (Japanese loincloth) - High-Quality Red Bleached Cotton for Spirit - Set of 2

This is a set of two Echigo fundoshi loincloths dyed red from white bleached cotton. The fundoshi has a slightly shorter front flap, a detail the author is particular about. The red dye is not an azo dye (specific aromatic amine) that can produce carcinogens, so you can wear it with peace of mind.

[Caution] When you first start using it, please hand wash it separately for a while. After a few washes, the color will stop bleeding, and you can wash it with other clothes.

● Vertical fundoshi (Tatemitsu): Length 96cm, Width 30cm, with folded hem reinforcement all around
● Horizontal fundoshi (Yokomitsu) (cord): Length 138cm, Width 2cm
● Reinforced at the intersection of the vertical and horizontal fundoshi with a strength thread

● The front flap is cut shorter to match Western clothing.
  While a long front flap suits kimonos, with Western clothing, a long front flap can get tangled in the crotch and may protrude from shorts. In modern times, a shorter front flap is more practical, and the author finds it more stylish.
● The horizontal fundoshi (cord) is nearly 140cm long, allowing even larger individuals to wear it. The bleached cotton cloth, 34cm wide, is divided into four equal parts and folded into quarters to create the cord, resulting in a sturdy cord. When tied below the navel by about three inches (approx. 10cm), passing over the top of the hip bones, as shown in the photo, it will not loosen.

[Reference] The Echigo fundoshi, which Grandpa Wada has loved for over half a century, was invented in the Edo period. It was welcomed by Japanese men as the ideal underwear for Japan's hot and humid climate and has survived for hundreds of years without falling out of fashion. Its continued popularity today is due to fundoshi made of bleached cotton, which is breathable, moisture-absorbent, and a clean, simple, traditional healthy undergarment. It is also recommended for those concerned about the tightness of elastic in pants and briefs or chafing from synthetic fibers. Echigo fundoshi, with its Japanese spirit, makes a great gift for birthdays, Father's Day, Respect for the Aged Day, and Kanreki (60th birthday) celebrations. It is also appreciated by people overseas suffering from the heat and humidity as a cool and healthy option.

In response to requests from fans, Grandpa Wada, at 72 years old, has carefully crafted Echigo fundoshi dyed red from the same bleached cotton material as the white bleached Echigo fundoshi he currently uses. He has named it Kiai (spirit/energy), wishing for the purchasers' good health and prosperity. This red fundoshi, which can be called a victory fundoshi (shobu fundoshi), is particularly useful for Kanreki celebrations or for a change of pace. Each one is sewn with great care.
