Salted wakame seaweed is made by blanching fresh wakame harvested during its peak season and then preserving it in salt to enhance its shelf life. Compared to dried wakame, it offers a richer, fresher flavor and a thick, chewy texture.
● Proper Rehydration and Preparation
Salted wakame seaweed is very salty and must be desalted before use.
Rinse: Place in a bowl and thoroughly rinse off the surface salt under running water.
Soak: Soak in plenty of water. The soaking time depends on your preference, but aim for 1-3 minutes if you prefer a firmer texture, or about 5 minutes if you like it softer.
Drain: Drain well in a colander and lightly squeeze by hand if necessary. The weight will increase to approximately 3.5 times its original weight after rehydration.
