This is 200ml of magic water, green water starter, essential for raising medaka fry, juvenile fish, goldfish, and koi. Dilute it by adding it to dechlorinated tap water or aquarium water.

What is Green Water?

Green water refers to water that has turned green due to a large bloom of phytoplankton. Strictly speaking, water that is greenish due to the proliferation of floating diatoms is called green water.

Effects of Green Water

1. Decomposition of harmful substances

As mentioned earlier, green water contains a large bloom of phytoplankton.

Nitrates and phosphates in excrement are a constant problem in fish keeping. However, with green water, phytoplankton absorb harmful substances as nutrients, effectively neutralizing them.

For general fish keeping, a filter is purchased to artificially adsorb harmful substances. By using green water, this cost can be reduced.

2. Becomes food for medaka

Medaka are omnivorous, but in nature, they primarily feed on plankton.

Examples include zooplankton like daphnia and mosquito larvae, and phytoplankton like diatoms.

Through green water, a food pyramid with medaka at the top is created. Phytoplankton bloom → zooplankton eat them → medaka eat the zooplankton → phytoplankton reproduce based on their excrement → return to the beginning.

By stabilizing this cycle, medaka are unlikely to starve even without being artificially fed special food.

Precautions

Plants perform both photosynthesis and respiration during the day.
However, on cloudy days or when there is insufficient sunlight, only the oxygen in the water is consumed, leading to oxygen depletion for the medaka.
This can rarely occur if the green water is too concentrated, so weak aeration is necessary. Additionally, adding aquatic plants or Akadama soil may cause the aquarium water to become clear.
