Okahijiki Seedling - Land Okahijiki, Miruna, Water Pine Greens, Original Species
These are seedlings of wild-grown *Salsola komarovii* (also known as sea purslane or beach amaranth) from Kamogawa City, Chiba Prefecture.
Photos 1-3 show the actual items for sale, and photo 4 is a reference of its natural habitat. It grows wild alongside plants like *Calystegia soldanella* (shore bindweed), *Lasiagrostis pilosa* (a type of grass), and *Glehnia littoralis* (coastal glehnia).
It is an annual plant, but it appears to self-pollinate and sprouts every spring from fallen seeds.
The leaves might feel a bit tougher than cultivated varieties, but they also seem more robust. They are delicious when made into tempura or kakiage (mixed tempura). You can harvest them 3-4 times until they flower.
It grows well when planted directly in a well-draining, sunny location. If drainage is poor, it's best to mound the soil to create a raised bed and plant the seedling on top.
Shipping will be via the 4th class postal mail for plants and seeds. As the roots are delicate, they will be shipped in recycled packaging such as repurposed plastic bottles or cardboard boxes, with the seedling still in its pot.
