About this product:
Sazare-ishi are stones formed when limestone dissolves due to rainwater and other factors. The dissolved components (such as calcium carbonate) act like cement, binding surrounding pebbles together to form a large mass. Its scientific name is calcareous breccia, a type of sedimentary rock, and it is a stone like a crystal of time formed over many years. The phrase sazare-ishi no iwa to narite... (small pebbles grow into boulders...) from the national anthem refers to this type of stone.
- This is a rare natural stone, unique in its shape, produced around Mt. Ibuki, one of Japan's 100 famous mountains, located on the border of Gifu and Shiga prefectures.
- It can be used as a decorative stone as is, for bonseki (tray landscapes) or suiseki (viewing stones), or it can be made more attractive by allowing moss to grow on its surface.
- There may be slight differences in color tone and shading between the photos and the actual product.
