Kōmoto Gorō, adopted son of the potter Kōmoto Rekitei, also worked with porcelain, blending the traditions of Seto with modern forms and sensibilities. He was an internationally acclaimed artist representing contemporary ceramics.
While Sometsuke is synonymous with Kōmoto Rekitei, his successor, Kōmoto Gorō, carried on the tradition of vibrant Sometsuke while also forging his own path, demonstrating a rebellious spirit in his work.
This water jar was an exhibited piece in the special exhibition and is the highest-ranking work featured in the catalog.

1919: Born in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, as the second son of Shigegorō Shibata.
1936: Graduated from Aichi Prefectural Ceramics School. Joined the Design Department of the Kyoto National Research Institute for Ceramics.
1946: Became a member of the Seto Ceramics Association.
1950: Adopted by Kōmoto Rekitei.
1953: First selected for the 9th Nitten Exhibition with Kōmon Kaki (Grass Pattern Flower Vase).
Received the Grand Prize at the Asahi Modern Japanese Ceramics Exhibition for Kaiyu Kaki (Ash Glaze Flower Vase).
1958: Received the Grand Prix at the Brussels World Exposition, Belgium.
1959: Received the Gold Medal for Design at the California International Exposition.
1960: Received the Grand Prize at the Asahi Modern Japanese Ceramics Exhibition and the Japan Ceramic Society Award.
1962: Received the Hokuto Prize (Special Selection) for Kuroi Tori no Utsuwa (Black Bird Vessel) at the 5th Shin Nitten Exhibition.
1965: Received the Gold Medal for Kaiyu Tsubo San-ten Unit (Ash Glaze Jar Three-piece Unit) at the Special Exhibition of the International Crafts Exhibition, West Germany.
1986: Passed away.
