Description
This is a lacquered large bowl (with lid). It is a substantial piece with a diameter of approximately 31cm and a height of approximately 14cm.
It was found in a house that was being renovated and had been stored without being used for a long time. It is believed to be from the Showa period.
The material is thought to be wood with lacquer coating, and it features hand-painted floral patterns (this cannot be definitively stated as I am not an expert). It is presumed to be used for serving dishes such as盛り鉢 (moribachi - serving bowls) or雑煮椀 (zōniwan - bowls for zōni soup) during celebrations like New Year's.
The condition is generally good, with no odors. No major damage is apparent, but there is some rubbing on the stem of a flower on the rim of the lid, and slight wear on the painted surface. However, the lacquer itself does not appear to be significantly affected.
