【Takenori Akagi】
Captain of the Shohoku High School basketball team, a third-year student. He is also the older brother of Haruko, a first-year student at the same school.

Despite playing for a weak basketball school, his physique and a certain game made him famous throughout the prefecture, establishing him as one of Kanagawa's top players.

As the captain who leads a group of problem students, he is an indispensable pillar for Shohoku, both mentally and in terms of play.

He has a physique that is quite beyond that of a high school student, standing at 197cm with a stern face resembling a gorilla. He possesses a powerful arm capable of knocking down the rebellious and invincible Sakuragi with a single punch. Sakuragi's nickname for him is Gori (Gorilla).

He is a passionate individual who dedicates his youth to basketball, and when basketball is involved, he can sometimes show emotions at an almost childish level. However, he is known as a model student within the school, and there are many scenes that show his trustworthiness and popularity among students and teachers.

Surprisingly, he is also academically excellent. When Sakuragi and the others heard that Akagi would be late for practice due to a physics補習 (supplementary lesson), they seemed incredulous (Kogure, who knew about it, desperately tried to explain).

Although not mentioned in the main story, in the bonus pages of the collected volumes, it is revealed that the day before the first match of the Inter-High, he went for a jog to relieve his pre-game tension but got lost on his way back and had to ask a passerby for directions to the inn. During the match against Toyotama, when everyone was eager to head to the court from the locker room, he got lost again and had to ask staff for the court's location, indicating he has a poor sense of direction.
