Reika Iwami is a printmaker who was active from the late Showa to the Heisei periods, and has created many works with water as their theme.
Her unique worldview and the beautiful, undulating patterns created by her woodblock prints are highly characteristic of her work.

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1927, she was a printmaker, director of the Japan Print Association, former member of the Kokuga Association, and studied under Koshichiro Oji. She began creating prints in her early twenties and is recognized as a pioneer of female woodblock print artists in post-war Japan. She consistently depicted landscapes with water, primarily in monochrome black and white. She exhibited extensively from 1954-1966 in the Kokuga Print Department (winning the Kokuga Award), and at the Tokyo International Print Biennale and Paris Youth Biennale. She held a solo exhibition in London in 2001, and numerous other solo and group exhibitions both domestically and internationally. Her works are held in the collections of the British Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the University of Oregon, the Library of Congress, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Yokohama Museum of Art, the Hakone Open-Air Museum, and many others.
